Description

Following last year's universally adored Rose In The Dark, Cleo Sol is back with an album that challenges its predecessor's supremacy. The slightly cooler, more beautiful 'girl-next-door', Cleo, loves fashion and she says her style is influenced by her Dad's 'rockabilly', mixed with grunge and 80's era music; "If all else fails, it's all about the big hair and big earrings", she says. Cleo Sol’s arrival in the past few years has been one of the best things to happen to UK soul music in a long time, and she’s gifted us two of her outstanding albums in the past 12 months. It's inspirational in terms of putting together a track, the technicalities of the song, and how Stevie sounds so perfect in just one take.

And as with the previous album, the pressing is very decent and the packaging is of incredible quality, a really thick matt finish card – the best I own I’d say, and I have a lot! Cleo also featured on 'Give a Little Love', the official Orange Rockcorps anthem alongside Roll Deep, Wretch 32 and Aggro Santos. A West London girl at heart, Cleo was born and raised in Ladbroke Grove and was brought up with a strong sense of community. However I was a bit disappointed with the fact that no lyric insert or anything is included in the quite expensive vinyl release.Cleo's inspirations derive from her parents' musical passions, shuffling through a record collection of classics across Motown, Reggae, Latin, and Acid Jazz. In celebration of its two-year anniversary, she tweeted: "Two years since we released mother into the world, thank you for embracing me, and seeing me, writing my truth is sometimes difficult, but it’s freeing, and having you support me pushes me to be brave. Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. With Serbian, Spanish and Jamaican heritage, her unique background has influenced her soulful sound. Cleo quickly became the singer in the family, jostling for attention amongst seven other siblings, she received a secondhand karaoke player from her mum which gave her a platform to display her early talents to her musical family.

While ears are reeling from the wonder of Heaven, we’re now treated to Gold and it’s hard to fathom how so many incredible songs can spill out from one person. Following her two previous albums Mother and Rose In The Dark, Sol stretches out once again with an arresting collection of neo soul, folk and more. Alongside the widespread success of Sault, we've been able to bear witness to the continued rise of core member Cleo Sol as a standout voice in the vanguard of UK soul. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.Small embellishments like the birdsong on ‘Golden Child (Jealous)’ and the tape hiss on the introspective piano ballad ‘Old Friends’ lend the album a looser, more spontaneous vibe that draws even more emotion out of Cleo Sol’s casually evocative voice. Straying not too far from the classicist neo-soul vibe of her prior Forever Living Originals efforts, Heaven is more natural refinement than radical departure and all the better for it. Akin to millions of other young girls, Cleo loved the Spice Girls and wanted to grow up to be flame-haired, Geri. A stint at a local youth centre paired with a dedicated and motivational singing teacher came together to alter Cleo's passion for singing from a hobby to a serious profession at the age of 16, and she began song-writing and honing her vocals on a weekly basis, later performing at monthly showcases.

The fourth album from soul artist Cleo Sol, Gold is an even more developed and profound artistic stepping stone from her previous album, which arrived just weeks before this record. Yes ,the cover is very heavy cardboard, but it's also poorly designed and it's difficult to get the vinyl back in the cover ; as it's like two tightly sandwiched pieces of card with no defined spine . Credit subject to status, UK residents only, Juno Media Limited acts as a broker and offers finance from PayPal credit.

A regular at the annual, famous Notting Hill Carnival, Cleo is often spotted cycling around the roads of West London.
