Description

Aperture set to A (auto) and COMMAND selected for D BUTTON/DIAL SETTING> APERTURE RING SETTING (A). The X100V has a built in flash that can sync up to 1/4000s, but to be honest, I never use flash, so can’t say much about the performance. The X100V has a built in ND filter for use cases when you want to shoot wide open in daylight, but are limited by the max shutter speed on the X100V. The ND filter provides up to 4 stops.

The EVF now has two modes, which can be changed in the EVF PERFORMANCE menu. The refresh rate of the EVF can now be optimized for brightness (if you're outside and need the extra boost to see your exposure clearly) or smoothness (if you're in dim light and need the increased refresh to reduce tearing when you pan the camera. These are effective but again would benefit from an automatic setting so we don't have to dig through menus. You can set what functions it controls at MENU > WRENCH > BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > COMMAND DIAL SETTING. Finally, if you’re reading this having not read anything I’ve written before, let me preface everything I’m about to say by highlighting the fact that I like my cameras to be as simple as possible. I find lots of buttons and modes overwhelming and I’m the sort to get quite put off by pretty much all technology that isn’t immediately intuitive to use… And that’s the context within which this article is written. It’s a guide to simplifying the Fuji X100v as much, if not more than it’s a guide for getting the most out of every feature it offers. Firstly, the X100V is mostly able to confidently focus in even the lowest light. This is a huge improvement over previous models that would struggle unless good contrast was present. This improvement also carries over into bright and high-contrast situations, where the camera barely hunts anymore. Since the X100V uses the same X-Trans 4 sensor we see in models like the X-T4, the whole frame is covered by PDAF pixels now. These are faster and more accurate than the old CDAF/PDAF array, and the result is the improved speed and low-light ability I mentioned above.Oddly mine tends towards overexposure at close distances in the SLOW sync mode, so I leave my flash sync at NORMAL. If I need slow sync, I just set a slower speed on the shutter speed dial in NORMAL mode and it works great at that slow speed! Add an element of personalisation to your X100 series camera with the Wood Soft Release button & Wood Hotshoe Cover. The convex soft touch button simply screws into the tread in the shutter button makes it easier to release the shutter, while the matching hotshoe cover simply slots into the hotshoe. For the X100V, the bokeh is really nice in most situations. The only time the bokeh gets noticeably busy or distracting is when I’m using high shutter speeds. This is a function of the leaf shutter on the camera. In these situations, I’m able to use the ND filter and shoot wide open at lower shutter speeds. The TCL-X100 II only converts the 35mm lens to 50mm equivalent, not enough to worry about. Making this lens even sillier, the X100V includes a digital converter that does a great job of giving the equivalent of 50mm and 70mm lenses — for free!

For fabulous fill-flash results indoors, use a colored filter taped over the flash to make the flash match the tint and color temperature of the ambient lighting, and then to set the camera's white balance to match that lighting. This way your flash matches the color of the ambient light; too often fill-flash looks too blue or purple compared to ambient light indoors when people forget to filter the flash first. This NiSi filter system has been designed for Fuji X100 Series compact cameras and allows the use of up to two special drop-in filters. The Professional kit includes the filter holder which screws onto the front of the X100V lens, a 3-stop Medium graduated ND filter, a polarising filter, an IR ND 8 filter (3-stops), a Natural Light filter for shooting at night and a carry case. The filter holder can be rotated by 360° so you can adjust the olarising filter strength and the position of the ND grad. Thumb grips attach to the camera using the hotshoe and provide a more comfortable position to place your thumb and hold the camera. Using thumb grips is very much down to personal choice, but with the X100V and X100 series cameras being so small, it can be useful for photographers with larger hands. If you need more than a ±3 stop range (you don't), set the dial to "C" and use the front dial to set compensation as far as ±5 stops. If AF-ON is selected, you can press the control instead of keeping the shutter button pressed halfway. MODELING FLASHEverything was just fine until yesterday, when the shutter button 'resistance' seemed to suddenly go. It's now super sensitive to a half-press, generally taking a photo unless I'm very, very careful (and even then, it's really hard to stop it from releasing). The weird thing is that it was fine one moment. I put it away in my bag. Went to use it again a few mins later, and I had this issue. Searched around online and can't find anything similar. Trouble is, I bought it in the US but I'm now in Mexico, where I will be for the next few months. The camera works, but it's really hard to use, as I can't focus and recompose, which is how I like to use it. In the sample below, you’ll see that the X100V is pretty sharp wide open at f/2 in the center, and by f/2.8 the center is razor sharp.
