After it was passed it created a two-tier system, altering the manner in which rum could be distributed in Barbados because distillers could only sell rums in bulk, which forced wine and spirit merchants to create their own brand. This expression of Doorly's Fine Old Barbados Rum was aged in small, American White Oak casks for a full 14 years resulting ina rum that has a complex character with a delicate aroma that can only come from time. Originally there was only the 40% ABV, but for a few years now a dialed up version that clocks at 47% ABV is also available. Martin Doorly’s company was registered in 1908, 2 years after the Rum Duty Act, and their Doorly’s Macaw Rum was the very first rum from Barbados to be exported pre-bottled rather than in a cask.

Not my fave, as I immediately shared other peoples' views in that it's quite a dry Rum and I also prefer something a little more spiced and potentially with more sugar (El Dorado 15, Zapaca 23 or MG Black Barrel).On paper the 14YO and 12YO have similar specs, as this one also contains rums that have been aged in American Bourbon casks and former Madeira barrels for 14 years, but that doesn’t mean this is just the 12YO amped up.
