About this deal

The reinstatement of boundary railings will further enhance the character and appearance of this Conservation Area. But the book is also about the love affair between Anita and Mr Barlow at one end of the spectrum and Anita and his grandson Tony at the other.

His son Edgell Wyatt succeeded him at Milton Place and took on the additional surname of Edgell, becoming Edgell Wyatt Edgell. This one is post-rationing but the countryside and society are still coming to terms with the changes post-war.After spending so much of the early part of the book mourning her son, who would have been not much older than Tony, she all of a sudden goes and sleeps with Tony himself?

These homes will be for private sale only, no shared ownership or affordable housing will be available. Set within a thriving community with a rich heritage and just a stone’s throw from beautiful countryside, these homes offered the perfect setting for enjoying life at a relaxed pace and for bringing up a family.Head to the contemporary kitchen with black marble countertops to prepare beach picnics and home-cooked meals, utilising the electric oven and hob, microwave and American-style fridge/freezer. I was a little bit confused why people just ‘accepted’ Anita as ‘a foreigner’ rather than a very recent enemy: maybe they think she’s a refugee, which she is in parts, and there’s certainly a good dollop of xenophobia of the general kind washing around. It was one of Persephone’s 2019 offering; they have also published another by this author, both found in archives and never before published.

Anita, who has lived in Austria through the Second World War, comes to live in a large English country house in the early 1950s. For quite a while I couldn't quite understand when this was taking place- after WWI or II because Milton Place, a large country house outside a small village seems rather timeless.I found the pacing to be quite unbalanced, as the exposition seemed to drag on forever before the plot finally decided to go somewhere. It is flabbergasting to think this story could have never been published had Persephone not done the honours.
