About this deal

My story of owning this SNXS79 is a funny one. Like I said earlier, it was my own personal first mechanical watch I’ve owned for myself. What I didn’t realize at the time was that a smaller watch is actually classier and more versatile, as it’s more subtle and discreet. All in all, the dial is clean and very refined. This helps make it especially suitable for all kinds of occasions. Though I’ll must admit, I sometimes still wear the flimsy original bracelet on warmer days. It’s not the best quality, but light and comfortable enough for when it gets really hot out. There are some other options, though. As is common with affordable watches, the bracelet is the part of the watch that feels like it has been compromised with the most. It has some rattle and doesn’t give a 100% impression of quality.

It has a domed crystal and a case that’s scratched up, and has so much character, in my opinion. What is a Seiko 5?

One more thing to touch upon is the automatic movement, now I love watches with this style of movement. They automatically wind themselves using the kinetic movement of your wrist which is an interesting feature.

The bit of extra height does help to add a touch of extra wrist presence, though not by much. 7S26 Movement The watch measures 38mm in diameter with a thicness of 12mm, not a bad size at all really. Some might say it’s a little smaller than the current average, but we’re only talking about 2mm or so, nothing to worry about really. If you are looking for a clean and elegant automatic everyday watch that you can count on, Seiko is definitely a brand you should look at. Between this model alone, there’s the SNXS79K1 and SNXS79J1. A Malaysian and Japanese version, respectively. The Malaysian version (K1) has a Spanish day wheel, and the J1 has a Kanji date wheel. The differences end there (aside from the price). SNK355 vs SNXS79K In my experience Swiss watches are like German cars expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and no where near as reliable as Japanese cars, especially Toyotas and Suzukis. The cleanest and most refined watch designs tend to be those that prove to be the most timeless and classic, and the Seiko 5 SNXS77 is definitely one that falls in this category. I also wasn’t a fan of the all polished case of the SNXS79, and how easily the mineral crystal smudged up and looked ‘dirty’ from fingerprint smudges all the time (little did I know, sapphire crystals can be WORSE about this sometimes).

The SNXS79’s lume, however, shines bright like a torch. It helps that the hour markers are so large and bold. The watch has a water resistance of 30M/3ATM. This is a downside of this movement as it is certainly not a lot. It can handle water splashes but should not be submerged. At the same time, it is important to consider that this watch is made as an everyday timepiece, and therefore, good water resistance is not crucial. These are a personal favorite. All four have major Oyster Perpetual vibes without feeling too derivative, and naturally you can expect anything that borrows from the OP to be pretty damn versatile. These share the same tonneau case as the aforementioned SNXF05, so that 37-millimeter diameter should be quite forgiving for a number of wrist sizes. So today I’m doing a Seiko SNXS77 review. This is another watch that’s part of Seiko’s popular Seiko 5 series. They intended on bringing an affordable, well built, automatic watch to the market, and they definetly succeeded.

Price Drop Alert

The ref. SNZG13K1 is paired with a three-piece link stainless steel bracelet. The ref. SNZG15K1 is an identical timepiece, but mounted on a textile strap. Both versions start at around 180 USD. The good news is, there is clearly no shortage of Seiko 5s to choose from, and even if the SNXS79 doesn’t do it for you, there are plenty of other expensive-looking Seiko 5s to choose from.
