Got to Get You into My Life" won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). [49] The song was also nominated for a Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. [50] Chart performance [ edit ] Chart (1978) Single with the original coming from Marvin Gaye plus subsequent cover from the Paul Butterfield Band.

Another from the second LP. Probably not technically as good as the original but it works so well in the context of the album. That’s enough. If the reader is at all into Cliff Bennett then he or she will have his or her favourites. This was one of their last live performances as the band had decided to stop touring and to turn their attention to recording in the studio, a decision which was to lead to the release of Sergeant Pepper the following year.Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers were a 1960s British rhythm and blues, soul and beat group who had two top 10 hits with " One Way Love" (No. 9 UK, 1964) and " Got to Get You into My Life" (No. 6 UK, 1966). I’m also rather inclined towards the Dean Sterling/Teen-beats Lost Love. Good usage of the Doo Wop Progression, endearing semi-unplugged arrangement and one of those teen pop records which belied the rule of most/all teen pop being rubbish. And Dean doesn’t really play up the Holly thing.

Also from the first LP and a typical example of the Bennett/RR approach as applied to a song from Curtis Mayfield, one of the more idiosyncratic song writers. Unfortunately, Paul had to leave the studio before Cliff put the vocal on and next morning there was a phone call from “McBeatle,” who had just heard the finished product. And in case anyone’s wondering, my opening clip featured Cliff and the boys with a live version of I Take What I Want. A cover version by Earth, Wind & Fire was issued as a single in July 1978 by Columbia Records. [40] Their rendition reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. [41] [42] The song also rose to No. 33 on the UK Singles chart. Manfred Mann’s road manager Billy held forth with lurid tales of the Carrousel Club in Copenhagen, where personal manager, Bernard Lee, they had just played, and Cliff’s listened tolerantly by his side.

From the first EP. There were three EPs released and none of the songs on them appeared on any single or LP from Cliff and the boys. And, yes, this was the great Larry Williams number and Cliff’s version was recorded before the take from the Stones (on Out Of Our Heads). I love both the original and the Stones more metallic effort but Cliff took the song closer to up tempo soul which is where I felt the original was intended to be targeted. Williams, of course, did move into the soul arena both with, and without, Johnny “Guitar” Watson. Coplan, Chris (20 September 2009). "Album Review: The Beatles – Revolver [Remastered]".
