The great Dartmoor walks in the list below cater for walkers of all abilities from easy low-level circular walks to routes across the high moorland tors. All walks are free to Xownload and print and all routes have GPX files. The walks include all the major summits in the Dartmoor National Park including High Willhays the highest summit in southern England. Map - Dartmoor Hare Tor. Super tor on the western side of Dartmoor providing top views of Dartmoor, the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Cornwall. Hunter's Tor (Lustleigh Cleave/East Dartmoor).The broad ridge that runs along the top of Lustleigh Cleave provides some of the best valley views in Dartmoor National Park. At the north west end of the ridge, when open access moorland drops steeply into farmland, is Hunter's Tor. The view opens out over North Bovey and the luxury hotel Bovey Castle to Cosdon Beacon and Dartmoor's highest ground. The difficulty of the event is very weather dependant - besides lovely spring days, there has been snow, heatwaves, fog, and heavy rain (making river crossing dangerous) over the 50 years the event has been running. Those years got me four events (as we call Ten Tors) under my belt: 35, 45 twice and 55. I was the first girl across the line on the 50th Anniversary of the event. My team finished a 45 mile route at 7:56am on Sunday morning – although sadly only in training. But when you’re doing 10 tors, you can’t help wondering if it’s possible to do all of them in one go… Why Now?

Start with self-guided short walks direct from the National Park Visitor Centres at Haytor, Postbridge and Princetown if you are not confident about map ready. They can easily be done in an hour. Or why not join an organised walk led by an experienced guide? You won't need to worry about map reading and guided walks are a great way to discover more about Dartmoor's beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage. Sharp Tor (Dartmeet/East Dartmoor).Many of Dartmoor's classic views are provided by tors overlooking steep-sided wooded valleys and gorges. There's Sharp Tor in the Teign Gorge, Ger Tor above Tavy Cleave and the Dewerstone above the Dewerstone Valley. Perhaps the best of the lot is the view from Sharp Tor above Dart Gorge. How many tors there are on Dartmoor is a highly contentious issue. Yes, really. Counts range from 100 to well over 300, depending on who you listen to – and what you consider to be a tor.Find Dartmoor walks from the list below which features the best walking routes in the area.
