I played five rounds the next day and the sleeves held up very well. No bends on the corners, still very smooth with little to no dirt buildup (partially because I used a clean playmat! I know a place you can buy the best playmats ever ! 😉) However, you are getting what you pay for. Katanas are well worth the price given their quality and durability. If you have a few extra dollars to spend, these sleeves are the way to go. The same couldn’t be said for the regular Cortex sleeves. While they were still tougher than average, they pale in comparison to their Matte counterparts. We rate the regular Cortex sleeves a strong 8/10, and the Cortex Matte sleeves an impregnable 10/10 for seam strength. I just wanted to get some thoughts on Ultimate Guard's Katana sleeves vs. Ultra Pro Eclipse Mattes. I've used the Eclipses and the shuffle feel is great, but they get really grimy easily, even after a thorough hand-washing and playing on playmats, and the corners are already starting to bend a little. The edges seem as though they could catch, scuff and mark the cards. they are extremely easy to insert into the katana sleeves. KCM is also nice, innersleeve but more for Dragonshild Sleeves.

OFC Ultimate Guard makes his own Innersleeves. But i test many combinations, i think for Katana the best innersleeves are smoky or non smoky Perfect Fits from Dragonshild, To test how well the Cortex sleeves double-sleeve, we combined both the Regular and Matte versions with 100 of 7 different inner sleeves. This means a total of 700 ins and outs for each Cortex variant! That is a lot of sleeving and un-sleeving and a lot of information. The condensed results are as follows: Not as tall as a Dragon Shield (the cut is similar to Ultra Pro Eclipse), so there's no issue of "baconing" on the top edge over time.

V i m o z a h r do regular KMC sleeves have that extra space on the top? Because the way that I shuffle it gives me issues as well. I've heard a lot of people recommend the KMC inner sleeves but what are the regular outer sleeves they offer like? It sounds like with the extra space at the top on the dragon shields they may not be for me. Also does Katana make inner sleeves? I'm not familiar with that brand actually!

To evaluate seam strength, we grab each side of the sleeve and pull until either the plastic warps or the seams split. We can then determine the amount of force required to split the sleeve and compare it to other sleeves as reference. There isn’t much to complain about here. But we also don’t have much to get overly excited about. The front offers a clear view of your cards without creating too much glare. It also helps the colors pop. When I first started (many years ago now), I used a lot of Ultra Pro products, but I personally feel that the quality just isn't there any more.
