About this deal

The differences in field of view between the lenses. 40mm seems quite a bit wider than 50mm, look at the powerline and sky to see how big of a difference there is. The shots are not interchangeable by any means. The disparity between 50mm and 55mm, while still noticeable, is not as significant. I am pretty sure you could pass off the 55mm shot as a 50mm lens and no one would notice without something to compare it to. If you own a ME Super then you’ll feel right at home with the Super A. As the Super A has a similar top dial layout as the older M Series camera. There is no traditional shutter speed dial like with the ME Super and the dial serves more as a mode dial. Moving the dial to “AUTO” lets you use “Program” or “Aperture Priority” modes. Move the shutter dial to “M” lets you use “Shutter Priority” or “Manual” modes. There is also a “B” setting for long exposures and a “125X” for non-dedicated flashes. The actual shutter speed is adjusted with two buttons and there is a top LCD widow indicating the selected shutter speed. Looking through the viewfinder you will see two boxes on the bottom, the left indicates the shutter speed and the right the aperture. Refer to the camera manual for various symbols/characters appearing in these windows for certain program modes. The Super A needs working batteries to function. Let me add two of my favourite ME (Super) features. One is the superb loading system: a bundle of white, flexible rods on the take up spoil grabs the film leader first time, every time. Hey! Are you just starting film photography? Here’s a helpful guide! How Much Is The ME Super Worth In 2022? Unfortunately, the light meter was AWOL in 8 cases out of 36 resulting in dark frames, and in cases when it actually worked it underexposed by about 1 stop.

I bought my Super A as part of a kit with the A50/1.7 and paid 60GBP. So my estimate for the Super A is half the cost, which is 30GBP. My relationship with the Pentax ME Super has been quite short. I initially thought it might just about supplant the MX, but after finding it increasingly frustrating throughout only shooting a roll and a half of film, I’ve decided I have no intention of shooting it again. The ME Super was our second SLR Pentax after starting with an K1000 SE in the late seventies. Having started with the K1000, it was a comfortable transition moving up to a slightly more advanced platform. The benefit of having a standardized thread size is that you only need one set of filters. Pentax-M vs Pentax-A The only lens here with 7 blades. In theory, this should produce the best-looking bokeh. I have heard people complain of the build quality on this lens and while it’s certainly not bad, it’s doesn’t feel as precise as the 50mm f/1.7 or 55mm f/1.8, just a bit more jiggly.

In 1976, alongside the quintessential K1000, Pentax had lined itself with the electronic era by presenting the ME and thereafter the ME Super. Petite SLR cameras, with a futuristic-looking control panel on top. Not sure what was the rationale behind it, as it made a simple shooting complex. In short, Pentax mixed all possible elements to create a camera awkward to use. Not sure how many were sold, assume not many. Current value, Pentax ME / MV / MG / MX Hello, 15 years and thousands of photos with a Pentax ME make me totally agree with what you expose. ME, MX and the Super models were wonderful. There are a few common faults with the ME Super but the worst of them is the electrical fault that seems to be its biggest downfall. The Pentax Super Program (called Pentax Super A in some markets) is a versatile A-series film SLR featuring support for P, Tv, Av, and M exposure modes. You control the shutter speed using the push buttons on the camera, and the aperture via the aperture ring. Both can be set to auto (given you have an A-series lens or newer), which then brings the camera into Program mode. With M and K lenses Av and M exposure modes are available.

It's fun to watch the balance change and how the engineers tried to anticipate how the camera would be used under different lights. Speaking of batteries, the ME Super takes two LR44 batteries, which are still cheap and readily available today, so you don’t have to worry about the camera becoming obsolete any time soon. We can’t answer any of those questions, but to learn everything you’ll ever need to know about the Pentax ME, read on. A clever feature of this quite electronically controlled camera is that in the case of battery failure, the camera can still be operated manually using a 1/125 shutter speed, so in a pinch (and with a light meter or a lot of experience), you can keep on shooting until you find new batteries.A good deal of these top performers were released with the Vivitar brand name. Any zoom featuring the Vivitar Series 1 branding on it is going to have the best optics you can expect to see from an older zoom lens. I loaded up my trusty Pentax ME Super (probably my favorite aperture priority camera of all time) with some Fuji Superia 400 (which is my favorite 400 ASA budget color negative film right now) and got down to business. This outwardly simple camera’s semi-automatic nature, its diminutive size, and its surprisingly good performance left us with some questions. Specifically, why is this camera so often overlooked by shooters? How’d they make this thing so small? And why doesn’t Pentax get any respect? I love this camera, and it is by far my most used manual focus Pentax body. It has all the modes you could want (I use Av 99% of the time), it's compatible with every single K mount lens (FAJ and DA in P and Tv only), is light and compact enough while still feeling solid and handles very well with its little grip. To cry: Of my ME I only have the empty body (without interior parts) and two lenses 50 mm f1.4 and 200 mm f4, the 28 mm f2.8 I adapted it for Sony37 (article in 35mmc)
